CCJS4340 Violence and Murder in the Family

Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an overview of the theoretical paradigms examining the definitions of, causes of, and interventions for family violence with specific emphasis on parents who kill their children/step-children.

Student Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Explore and analyze the myriad of resources available to criminal justice professionals and to criminologists via the World Wide Web.
  2. Interpret the sources of data collected on family violence and murder.
  3. Apply theory to family violence and murder scenarios, explaining situations using an appropriate theory.
